BigMedilytics at the ‘2nd Big Data for Precision Medicine Symposium’

5 June, 2019

The BigMedilytics project was presented at the ‘2nd Big Data for Precision Medicine Symposium (BDPM 2019)’ at Instituto Maimónides de Investigación Biomédica de Córdoba (IMIBIC) on Tuesday 4th of June 2019 in Cordoba, Spain. Alexandra Muñoz, science communicator at INCLIVA Biomedical Research Institute in Spain, explained how some pilots within the project focus on applying a better stratification to improve diagnostic techniques and treatments.

The Oncology and Population Health and Chronic Disease Management themes were highlighted during the presentation. Specifically, the breast cancer pilot was covered since it supports precision medicine to improve accuracy in diagnosis and propose treatments that are more targeted, less toxic and therefore better tolerated. In the case of Chronic Disease and Conditions, the use of Big Data Analytics in the Comorbidities pilot will help to define better stratification of the risk of hospitalization of events and mortality and to reduce the burden of the healthcare system.

The ‘2nd Big Data for Precision Medicine Symposium’, organized by the projects IASIS and PULSE, brought together institutions and other EU-funded projects with the mutual interest of the research and innovation within the scope of Big Data and Precision Medicine.
